Affirming Queer Identities in Uncertain Times

Presenter: Misty Wall, PhD, MSSW, LCSW

This workshop is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will be offered in a hybrid format, with an in-person session at BSU and an online component via Zoom. The presentation is free for members, $30 for non-members.

Presenter BioDr. Wall has 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in all stages of life.  She has experience in working with complex family systems, those currently in crisis and those who have experienced trauma. She has extensive knowledge and experience in working with individuals and families navigating Queer identities and experiences, recovery from Trauma, adoption, dissociative disorders, loss as well as complex mental illness.

Clinical Specialties:  Queer and Questioning, Gender Confirming Treatments, Marginalized populations, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, Dissociative Disorders, Complex Trauma, EMDR.

Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
  1. Apply trauma-informed and resilience-based frameworks to support queer clients navigating systemic oppression.

  2. Identify affirming language and practices that foster inclusive and supportive environments for LGBTQ+ clients.

  3. Demonstrate strategies for advocacy and allyship within social work practice to protect LGBTQ+ individuals.
