Mel Melton, BA, MDiv, MSW,  Jeanne Melton, BA, LCSW, DCSW will share their experiences with cancer and discuss a cancer diagnosis and its effect on the patient, family, and clinical practice. 



Both Mel (2022) and Jeanne (1993) have experienced cancer treatment. Mel retired from the Boise VA hospital in 2001 after 31 years. Jeanne worked at Warm Spring Counseling Center for 8 years with children and families and in private practice, primarily with adults from 1993 - present. 

Learning Objectives (working draft):

1. Identify possible responses to a cancer threat/diagnosis/treatment

2. Understand family and social network responses to illness/treatment

3. Explore how coping mechanisms help or hurt patients, families, and their social network. 

The training/workshop will also include a group discussion about personal experiences and how we can be a positive support to people in the face of high states of depression, dread, and panic/anxiety. These questions will be explore from a mental, emotional, social, and spiritual lens.
