Upcoming Trainings

Please save the date of September 7th, 2019 at 9:30 to 11:30 for an ISCSW sponsored training event.  The presenter will be Jen Moore, MA Coun., LPC, NBCC.  2 CEU’s will be given for attendees. The training is: Creating Safer Spaces for Intersectional LGBTQIA+ People.  This training is at the Boise State University, Interactive Learning Center room 202.

In this experiential/interactive seminar Jen Moore, LPC, President Elect of the Idaho Association for LGBT Issues in Counseling, will strive towards increasing multicultural competence of LGBTQIA+ clients.  The workshop will cover basic/101 information while exploring heteronormativity and cisgender normativity and the privileges of living within one or both of those worlds.  The concept of intersectionality will be introduced.  Through this increased competency, participants will work towards the goal of learning how to create safer spaces while supporting and celebrating the resilience of those they work with within the Queer community.

Learning Objectives

  1. Increase knowledge of language and terms common to LGBTQIA+ community.
  2. Increase ability in creating safer spaces and fostering resilience for LGBTQIA+ clients within office, agency, school, and community settings.
  3. Learn resources available and increase competency to support LGBTQIA+ clients.

We are a broad-based, active, statewide group that comes together to offer networking, mutual support, and learning opportunities that are encouraging, fun, inspirational and rewarding; to ultimately enhance the well being of vulnerable populations and the professional social workers that serve them.
